Where are they now?

Amber's Story

Amber joined a local North Hull charity as an apprentice studying the Level 3 Business

Administrator Standard apprenticeship with CERT in December 2019. Amber completed her

End Point Assessment in 2021 attaining a well deserved Distinction and passed her Level 2

Functional Skills Maths that she never thought was possible. We caught up with Amber 11

months later to see what she is doing now.

Amber, after you finished your apprenticeship what did you do next?

After my apprenticeship, I got promoted to be a Projects Assistant in the same organisation that I was an apprentice with.

What is your current job?

My job title currently is a Project Assistant.

What does your role involve?

I am still doing administration at the same place I did my apprenticeship but this job role involves working alongside the Project Manager assisting them in tasks that revolve around the projects that the charity delivers.

For example carrying out the administrative tasks that need completing to support the project achieve its outcomes and targets. This involves checking paperwork, data input, making calls, answering the telephone and using the computer for email and office applications for many tasks required by our projects.

What is your typical day like?

My typical day involves working with all the projects and doing data related tasks and working alongside the teams assisting them with their administration. This involves using Microsoft Office packages to complete new and existing tasks, answering the phone, using the telephone to follow up actions and making sure that administrative tasks are done to the specified deadlines.

Thinking back to the goals that you had at the start of your apprenticeship, where are you at now with your goals ?

At the start of my apprenticeship I had goals to stay with the organisation I was doing my apprenticeship with - which happened.

I had goals to grow my life skills and to grow me as a person so that I could evolve in the administration sector, be more confident and independent in life itself. Again it happened as I have moved out of my parents house and develop these skills which now help me stand out.

I also had goals to be promote and move higher up in the organisation which happened because I now work alongside the project manager and I am currently planning to carry out projects on my own with the project management skills I have learnt whilst doing the apprenticeship.
